The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design is the place for budding young architects to build their skills, hone their craft, and become the most condescending person you’ve ever met. As students learn to navigate the world of reading blueprints, trying to get on HGTV, and how to cross the Spadina Roundabout without getting struck by a car, they also acquire the best skill of all: drawing pictures.

Fourth-year student Chloé Carrington was spotted showing off after receiving good news following her class, ARC499: Advanced Drawing Pretty Pretty Pictures Seminar. “Yeah, I guess you could say I’m the best in my class. Even my professor knows it—she said that I’m designing at a professional level. That’s why I’ve been chosen to design UofT’s newest residence!” While everyone marvelled over her designs, we at The Boundary couldn’t help but wonder what inspired her work.

Chloé broke down the in-depth backstory behind her creation without hesitation. “So, as you can see, the element of colour is used to display the feelings of the Daniels atmosphere. The lavender roof displays the calm, quirky, and almost regal nature of the structural integrity of the materials used to build it. The salmon outer layer symbolizes how we’re all just going with the flow, ending up wherever it takes us—all while simultaneously making our own paths in the world. I also added in a little self-portrait to make sure everyone knows this is my work. And my dog, Fluffy. I love Fluffy.”

Where will this new residence go? Will it fit more than 3 people? Is Chloé the only student in this class? Why does Fluffy look like that? These are among the questions we tragically do not have the answers to. One thing we can say with confidence, however, is that the Academic Wood Tower has nothing on this.
