In the barbarian wasteland at the southern edge campus known as the “Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering,” the illiterate hordes of froshers prepare for their most sacred ritual: dyeing each other purple and chanting while marching beneath the banner of their favourite Greek letter.

This year, however, Great King of the Engineers N’gotha “Oog” Gruck, in his infinite wisdom, has decided to bless his new subjects with a magnanimous gift of blood sports.

First, an unlucky first-year will be made to fight a mechanical lion. Then, twelve virgins will be put through the fiery-hot water of a shower (with soap, according to the custom of the Math Department’s chief torturer). Finally, for the main event, Great King Oog’s own son will duel the fearsome One-Eyed, One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater. If he is successful, its viscous purple blood will be used to bathe the king’s new acolytes.

The Boundary advises all ArtSci travellers to stay on the north side of King’s College Circle, lest they be captured by a marauding band of hard hat-wearing mouth-breathers.
