Next Season of Heated Rivalry Features UofT Student Falling For Waterloo Engineer

TORONTO -- After a wildly successful first season, the highly anticipated second season of Heated Rivalry has finally been announced. The new installment features main characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rosanov, as well as  a surprise storyline between a University of Waterloo Mechatronics Engineering student and a University of Toronto Philosophy Specialist. 

“Yeah, so I was browsing through AO3 tags and the 'University of Toronto/University of Waterloo (anthropomorphic)' tag caught my eye. It seems like there’s a fairly established fan base personifying the universities and drawing yaoi edits of them. We thought this would be a great addition to the storyline,” a spokesperson from Accent Aigu Entertainment told The Boundary. 

According to leaks, new characters Oliver Torres from UofT and Timothy Sutton from Waterloo first meet in Montreal at Le Club DD’s. After learning Timothy is studying engineering, Oliver quips "you build rocket launch simulators for a weapons corporation, I write essays about Kant. We are not the same." What follows is an hour-long argument of whether engineers have a moral obligation to consider the ethics of their work, or whether philosophers have a moral obligation to get a job. 

Online reactions to the announcement were immediate, sparking mixed reviews. One user on the subreddit r/UofT commented “I have been drawing on Procreate since I was 13 and writing fics on Tumblr before AO3 became popular and everyone moved there. My culture is NOT your costume. These producers love capitalising on fandom spaces without crediting authors.” The Boundary noted that the tag ‘Oliver Torres/Timothy Sutton’ appeared within hours of the announcement, complete with 28 works uploaded, 16 of which were over 10k words. 

Rumours circulating online suggest that the season will end on a cliffhanger as Oliver and Timothy consider starting a polycule with Kaile, an alcoholism and business double major from Western whom they met through the new OUAC dating portal.
