For many students at the University of Toronto, reading week means free time after midterms, and for first years, a trip to Montreal. However, one brave celebrity is using her soprano voice to condemn Reading Week - former Glee survivor and Funny Girl star Lea Michele.
On Saturday Michele claimed that the week celebrates an “exclusionary act,” and suggested that the 7 day period be renamed to “media consumption week.” The actress did not return our written request to be interviewed further on the topic.
Oddly, the statement was not a written statement but rather a voice memo. This unconventional form of condemnation follows the actress's release of a picture that appeared to condemn the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in 2019, as well as a 2017 Tweet using exclusively emojis that seemed to call for a boycott of American bookstore chain Barnes and Noble.
